Ongoing Investigation:
Discharge into Hickory Run Creek
Bessemer Borough was notified of an incident that occurred last evening (May 28, 2025) involving the discharge of an unknown substance into Hickory Run Creek.
Upon learning of the situation, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) were immediately contacted. A DEP representative responded to the site and began an active investigation to identify the substance. The Borough is currently awaiting the final analysis results and will promptly share this information with the public once it becomes available.
As a precaution, Bessemer Borough’s certified water operator, Book & Proch, has been authorized to conduct testing for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). The Borough’s water system will be continuously monitored throughout the investigation in coordination with the DEP, EPA, Book & Proch, and the Borough Water Department to ensure the ongoing safety and quality of our public water supply.
